The hall’s functional renovation is part of the broader “Back to Muzio” programme, which aims to restore the entire building to its original philosophy as a multidisciplinary cultural centre devoted to contemporary arts.
The project was initiated to enhance the appeal of the theatre for the audience, whilst also ensuring that it could meet current technical standards and optimise its functionality as a contemporary performance space.
A limited set of remedial measures have been identified to restore the acoustical and visual quality of the hall, thereby improving the relationship between performers and audience. The acoustic finishes include bespoke boiseries crafted from red spruce wood reclaimed from the renowned “Forest of Violins” in Val di Fiemme, which was devastated by Storm Vaia. The treatment incorporates sound diffusing and sound absorbing elements, whose performance has been carefully tailored and validated through virtual modelling.
