Situated in a historic A2A site in Milan’s central Piazza Trento, the new call center has been configured as a space inspired by the principles of ‘people-based working’ and ‘healthy office’ – workplace design strategies based on human-centric design, prioritising employee relationships and wellbeing.
Designed as an open-plan office, the space is characterised by a diagonal ramped walkway that creates a connection between different functional areas. The choice of natural materials, in combination with innovative technologies and a meticulous acoustic study, have created the conditions for a space that is attentive to the most recent workplace environment needs as requested by the client.
Key aspects of our acoustic project were to ensure excellent communication, speech privacy and background noise control. Our acoustic solutions, developed and verified using detailed predictive modelling, include sound-absorbing panels in natural wood and bespoke workstations. To ensure the accuracy of results in terms of speech privacy and speech transmission index, the masking effects of HVAC noise were accurately simulated by reconstructing the actual noise sources.
The special desk modules have been custom-designed in close collaboration with the architects, conceiving each workstation as a “micro-location” in which to encourage conversation and reduce stress, while achieving an effective balance between ensuring acoustic privacy and facilitating visual contact between employees.
